General Motors Posts 16th Straight Earnings Beat, Raises Guidance

By Sadia Afrin JoyaJuly 30, 20262 Mins Read

General Motors reported Q2 2026 earnings of $3.57 per share on July 21, beating estimates of $3.29 by $0.28. Revenue came in at $48.03 billion, up 1.9% year-over-year. More importantly, GM raised its full-year guidance, signaling confidence in its ability to navigate the EV transition and manage costs.

This is GM’s 16th consecutive earnings beat. That’s not luck or accounting magic—it’s disciplined execution. The company has learned to manage guidance conservatively, then beat it with operational discipline.

Guidance Raised Across the Board

GM increased adjusted EBIT guidance to $14-$16 billion from $13.5-$15.5 billion. Adjusted earnings per share is now projected at $12-$14, up from $11.50-$13.50. Automotive free cash flow guidance was lifted to $9.5-$11.5 billion from $9-$11 billion.

The breadth of the raise matters. GM isn’t just beating on one metric—it’s ahead on earnings, cash flow, and capital returns. That suggests underlying operational strength, not one-time windfalls.

Trucks and Pricing Still Working

Truck margins remain solid, even as the auto industry faces intense competition. GM is managing to hold prices in segments where it has scale and brand loyalty. That’s getting harder as Chinese makers flood the market with cheaper EVs, but GM’s domestic market strength is holding.

The real question is whether GM can replicate this success as the industry shifts to EVs. Trucks are highly profitable. Can Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV match the margins of their gas predecessors? Guidance suggests management thinks so.

For GM shareholders, the message is clear: the company’s execution is disciplined, and management isn’t cutting corners to hit targets. Sixteen straight beats builds trust.
