Google Photos started rolling out Video Remix on July 8, a new AI editing tool that transforms plain clips into stylized ones in seconds. The feature is powered by Gemini Omni, Google’s recently announced model, and lets users apply cinematic effects without opening an editing app.
Video Remix lives in the Create tab and offers a library of templates. Pick a video and apply styles like oil painting, watercolor, or raw sketchbook. The AI can swap out backgrounds, add cinematic relighting to dark clips, or set a video in a greenhouse. It works by analyzing the clip and applying effects end-to-end using Gemini Omni.
How It Works
The tool saves hours of learning curve. Instead of struggling through Premiere Pro tutorials, users open a clip, choose a template like “Set my video in a greenhouse,” and let the AI handle it. The relighting feature is particularly useful for phone videos shot in poor lighting.
Google designed Video Remix to do one job well: take an unremarkable clip and make it look intentional and polished. It’s not meant for professional color grading or complex edits, but for the everyday video that needs a quick visual lift.
Availability and Cost
Video Remix is rolling out globally to adults with Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra subscriptions. It launched first in the U.S., Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.
Pricing for these plans ranges from $20 to $200 per month depending on the tier and feature access. The feature is part of Google’s broader push to embed Gemini across its consumer products.
Google is betting that casual users don’t want to learn video editing. They want results. Video Remix is that idea in product form.
