Google Pixel 10a Hands-On Review Shows Minimal Changes From Pixel 9a

By Tusher DebnathMarch 6, 20264 Mins Read

The Google Pixel 10a has surfaced in early hands-on coverage, revealing a phone that closely mirrors last year’s Pixel 9a. The device keeps nearly the same hardware, design language, and camera system while introducing only modest adjustments. Pricing begins at $499 for the 128GB model and $599 for the 256GB variant.

Google’s A-series lineup has traditionally delivered flagship-level camera performance at a lower price. With the Pixel 10a, however, the company appears to have focused on small refinements rather than major upgrades, leaving much of the internal hardware unchanged.

Pixel 10a hardware remains largely identical to previous model

The Google Pixel 10a uses the same Tensor G4 processor found in the earlier Pixel 9a generation. The chipset is built on a 4-nanometer architecture and combines a Cortex-X4 performance core with Cortex-A720 and Cortex-A520 cores for balanced efficiency. Memory remains fixed at 8GB RAM with storage options of 128GB or 256GB using UFS 3.1.

The device carries a 6.3-inch P-OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1080 × 2424 pixels. Peak brightness can reach 3000 nits, making it easier to view under strong sunlight. Gorilla Glass 7i protects the front panel, while the rear uses a plastic finish paired with an aluminum frame.

Design adjustments are subtle but visible. The back surface is now completely flat, replacing the slight curvature seen previously. The camera bar remains integrated into the rear housing, maintaining the familiar Pixel aesthetic.

On the camera side, the Pixel 10a continues with a 48-megapixel main sensor supported by optical image stabilization and dual-pixel autofocus. A 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens handles wider shots, while the front camera uses another 13-megapixel sensor. Video recording supports 4K at up to 60 frames per second.

Battery capacity stands at 5100mAh. Wired charging reaches 30W and can deliver roughly half a charge in about 30 minutes. Wireless charging is supported at 10W, and the device also includes bypass charging for improved thermal management during gaming.

Small refinements arrive through design and software

Despite the largely unchanged hardware, a few updates appear in software and finishing details. The phone launches with Android 16 and carries a long update commitment of up to seven major Android upgrades. This remains one of the longest support periods in the mid-range smartphone segment.

Several software features are borrowed from the broader Pixel 10 lineup. These include new AI-driven tools and system optimizations introduced alongside Google’s latest flagship models. The exact list of additions varies depending on regional rollout and system updates.

The Pixel 10a also introduces fresh color options alongside matching protective cases. Packaging remains minimal, consisting mainly of the handset and a USB-C cable. Google has continued its push toward paper-based packaging materials.

Connectivity features include 5G support, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, stereo speakers, and an optical fingerprint scanner beneath the display. The phone is also rated IP68 for dust and water resistance and includes satellite SOS support for emergency communication in remote areas.

The Google Pixel 10a enters the market as a steady continuation of Google’s mid-range smartphone strategy. While the device keeps the strengths of earlier Pixel A-series phones, the limited hardware changes may lead some buyers to compare it closely with last year’s Pixel 9a before deciding.

FYI (keeping you in the loop)-

Is the Google Pixel 10a different from the Pixel 9a?

The Pixel 10a shares most of its hardware with the Pixel 9a. The processor, camera system, battery, and display specifications remain largely unchanged. Only small design tweaks and software updates distinguish the newer model.

What processor powers the Google Pixel 10a?

The Pixel 10a runs on the Google Tensor G4 chipset. It is built using a 4nm process and combines multiple CPU cores for performance and efficiency. The chip is designed to support Google’s AI and camera processing features.
