Google Q2 2026 Earnings Hit $119.8 Billion, Cloud Growth Accelerates

By Tarek HasanJuly 24, 20262 Mins Read

Alphabet’s revenue rose 24% to $119.8 billion in the second quarter of 2026, up from $96.4 billion a year earlier. The company’s Google Cloud unit generated $22.24 billion in revenue, reflecting a remarkable 64% year-over-year increase that outpaced competitors Microsoft and Amazon Web Services.

The earnings report landed on a week when Google’s search engine captured unprecedented traffic. During the recent World Cup tournament, the company said 1.7 billion unique viewers globally watched World Cup-related videos on YouTube. That volume of engagement translated directly into advertising revenue and underscored Google’s dominance in capturing intent-driven searches at moments when people want answers most.

Cloud Leadership Narrows Microsoft’s Lead

Google Cloud’s acceleration has been the quarter’s defining story. While Microsoft still holds larger total cloud revenues, Google’s growth rate now exceeds both Azure and AWS. The gap matters because enterprise customers watching quarterly results are making purchasing decisions based partly on momentum. A vendor growing faster signals innovation investment and staying power.

The company attributed the growth to AI services and infrastructure, areas where Google made significant bets over the past two years. Customers migrating workloads to Google Cloud cited the company’s Gemini models and custom silicon optimizations as the reasons for the switch.

Capital Expenditure Signals Continued AI Investment

Analysts expected Alphabet’s capex for the quarter to land around $45 billion, a 25% increase from first-quarter spending of $36 billion. That spending rate reflects management’s conviction that AI infrastructure demand will persist and accelerate through 2027 and beyond.

The earnings beat eased investor concerns that AI capital spending was slowing. Guidance for the next quarter suggested capex would remain elevated, signaling that management sees no signs of slowdown in demand from customers building AI applications.

Alphabet trades off growth-era profitability for market share in AI, betting that revenue will follow the infrastructure once competition normalizes.
