The iPhone Duo’s wireless hardware combines Apple’s C2 modem with a separate N1 chip that supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. Apple lists those connectivity features in the product announcement, while MacRumors reports that the new networking chip is used across the Duo and the iPhone 18 Pro line.
The C2 modem handles the phone’s 5G connection. Apple says the modem supports 5G mmWave in the United States and improves cellular reliability with AI-powered changes. MacRumors reports that the C2 is also designed to use less energy than the previous C1X modem, although network results will vary by carrier and location.
The N1 chip covers local wireless functions. Wi-Fi 7 is intended for compatible wireless networks, Bluetooth 6 is the short-range standard for accessories and Thread is a low-power networking technology used in connected-home products. The presence of a standard in the specification does not guarantee that every feature is available in every market or with every accessory.
MacRumors also reports that the Duo is eSIM-only worldwide. That is a separate design choice from the wireless standards, but it affects how owners activate mobile service. Buyers will need a carrier that supports the required eSIM setup in the country where the phone is used.
Apple says the C2 and the Duo’s other hardware are built into a foldable phone with two displays and a dual-battery architecture. The company has not promised a specific real-world speed for Wi-Fi 7 or Bluetooth 6. Those results depend on compatible routers, accessories, spectrum and software.
The phone will be available in Star White and Night Sky. Apple says preorders open October 16, and availability begins October 23 at a starting price of $1,999. MacRumors’ independent report confirms the connectivity list and adds context about the C2 and N1 chips.
