Apple’s iPhone Duo does not include the Action Button found on recent Pro iPhones, according to the phone’s published technical layout and MacRumors’ launch report. Silent mode will instead be controlled through Control Center, while the side button carries the Touch ID sensor.
The Action Button debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro and has appeared on later Pro models. Owners can assign it to actions such as Silent mode, a Focus, the flashlight, Voice Memos, Visual Intelligence or a Shortcut. The Duo takes a different approach because its side layout is built around a foldable frame.
Apple’s specifications diagram shows volume controls at the top, Camera Control and a side button on the right, and the USB-C port at the bottom. The diagram does not show a separate Action Button or a physical mute switch. MacRumors said the Duo is the first iPhone since the Action Button arrived to omit the control.
The change affects a small but familiar daily shortcut. Users who prefer a dedicated physical control will need to open Control Center or use another software route to change Silent mode. The Camera Control button remains available for photography and does not replace the Action Button’s configurable role.
The side button has a different job from the start. Apple says Touch ID is built into it so the Duo can be authenticated whether the phone is open or closed. The choice reflects the space and access requirements of a foldable device rather than a change to Face ID on the iPhone 18 Pro line.
iPhone Duo will have a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple says the phone has a titanium frame, Ceramic Shield protection and IP68 resistance. Those confirmed details provide the hardware context for the button layout.
Preorders open October 16, with availability starting October 23. Until buyers use the phone in both positions, the practical effect of losing the Action Button will be a usability question rather than a performance claim.
