Marvel Studios unveiled the cast of its new X-Men movie at D23 on Friday, with director Jake Schreier and star Sadie Sink taking the stage in Anaheim. Studio president Kevin Feige led the presentation, capping months of speculation about who would play the mutant team.
Kit Connor was named as Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops, while Christopher Abbott will play Professor Charles Xavier. Samara Weaving takes on Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette was cast as Rogue, and Maya Boyd will play Storm.
Adam Driver appeared in a surprise video message confirming he has joined the film as well, though not as a hero. Driver will play a villain named Nathaniel Milbury, a character new to the screen version of the X-Men.
Sink herself is set to play Jean Grey, a role Marvel first confirmed earlier this year when she appeared as the character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Her presence at the X-Men panel tied that earlier reveal directly to the new film’s ensemble.
Jake Schreier, who directed Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* last year, will helm the untitled X-Men project. Marvel has not released a title for the film beyond calling it its X-Men reboot, and plot details remain under wraps.
The studio confirmed the movie will open exclusively in theaters on May 5, 2028, giving Marvel roughly two years to fill out the rest of its cast and begin production. The reveal was part of a broader Marvel Studios presentation at D23 that also included new footage from Avengers: Doomsday.
The casting marks Marvel’s first full attempt at bringing the X-Men into its shared cinematic universe following Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which had held the film rights to the characters for two decades. Fans have waited years to see how the studio would reintroduce mutants alongside its existing roster of heroes, and Friday’s announcement offered the clearest picture yet of that plan.
