Microsoft’s Q4 earnings exceeded Wall Street expectations with Azure cloud revenue climbing 43% year-over-year, pushing the company’s cloud business past a major milestone: $100 billion in annual revenue for the first time.

The software giant reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $61.9 billion and earnings of $2.99 per share, beating analyst estimates. Microsoft Cloud revenues jumped 27% to $35.3 billion, cementing the company’s position as the largest cloud computing provider among the major tech firms.
Azure Reaches Historic $100B Mark
Azure infrastructure services have become Microsoft’s growth engine. The cloud platform’s $100 billion annualized revenue rate reflects the massive shift toward cloud computing across enterprises worldwide. Major corporations are consolidating their cloud workloads on Azure, attracted by Microsoft’s integration with Windows, Office 365, and enterprise tools that companies already use daily.
Microsoft did not provide specific breakdowns of AI-related workloads, but analysts estimate that Anthropic partnership commitments and generative AI services are contributing meaningfully to Azure’s acceleration. Bank of America estimates Anthropic-related workloads alone could add $1.5 billion in sequential AWS revenue during 2026.
Capital Spending Unchanged, But AI Investment Underway
CEO Satya Nadella emphasized that Microsoft will maintain steady capital expenditure in 2026 despite the massive investments pouring into AI infrastructure. The company is balancing the cost of building out data centers with profitability concerns raised by investors worried about AI’s long-term return on investment.
The earnings report landed amid the broader semiconductor sector’s momentum, with chip equipment makers and semiconductor manufacturers rallying on expectations for sustained corporate spending on AI infrastructure through 2027.
Stock Surge Reflects Investor Confidence
Microsoft shares climbed 8.5% in early trading following the earnings announcement. The stock’s strength pulled the broader tech sector higher after the previous day’s selloff. The Federal Reserve‘s decision to hold interest rates steady removed one source of uncertainty for high-growth tech companies that rely on low borrowing costs to fund capital projects.
The earnings beat reinforces Microsoft’s status as one of the safest bets in AI infrastructure during a period when investors are questioning whether cloud giants can actually monetize their AI spending.
Microsoft now leads all U.S. technology companies in cloud revenue, a position it has strengthened quarter after quarter through 2026.
