Steady Weekend Earnings Keep Pegasus 3 Ahead of Rivals

“Pegasus 3” is directed by Han Han and stars Shen Teng as veteran driver Zhang Chi. The story follows the aging racer as he leads a determined national team into the demanding Muchen 100 Rally, an international competition that pushes drivers and machines to their limits.

The film has maintained momentum during its third full weekend in release. Weekend earnings of RMB168.9 million reinforced its leading position in the domestic market.

Other films continued to draw audiences but remained well behind the racing comedy. The martial arts epic “Blades of the Guardians” placed second for the weekend with around $11.4 million in ticket sales. Its cumulative total has now reached about $180.4 million.

The film is adapted from a popular manhua and centers on Dao Ma, a mercenary bounty hunter who escorts a mysterious fugitive through dangerous desert territory toward the ancient capital of Chang’an. The production features a high-profile cast including Wu Jing, Nicholas Tse, and Jet Li.

Zhang Yimou’s espionage thriller “Scare Out” secured the third spot with weekend revenue of approximately $9.4 million. The film’s overall box office has climbed to about $174.4 million. Its story follows two elite agents racing to uncover a spy network responsible for leaking sensitive national intelligence.

China Box Office Shows Mixed Signals in 2026

Family animation also remained present in the top rankings. “Boonie Bears: The Hidden Protector,” the 12th film in the long-running franchise, brought in about $4.9 million over the weekend. That lifted its cumulative total to roughly $143.1 million.

The story follows Briar, Bramble, and Vick as they venture into an ancient forest and encounter a mysterious creature known as the “Nian.” Their journey revolves around protecting both the creature and the fragile ecosystem from exploitation.

Rounding out the top five was the comedy-drama “Night King,” which collected about $3 million over the weekend. The film’s total has reached approximately $25.8 million since its release.

The story takes place in 2012 at a declining nightclub in Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui East district. A stubborn manager and his former wife reluctantly work together to save the business from a corporate takeover.

Mainland China’s overall box office for the March 6–8 weekend reached about $58.2 million. Despite several strong individual performers, the broader market remains significantly below last year’s pace.

Year-to-date revenue for 2026 stands at around $1.52 billion. That figure is down more than 53 percent compared with the same period in 2025.

As theatrical revenues fluctuate across the market, “Pegasus 3” continues to stand out as one of the strongest performers in China’s 2026 box office landscape, edging closer to the $600 million global benchmark.
