Peyton Watson is heading from the Denver Nuggets to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a four-team NBA trade that also sends Max Strus to the Los Angeles Clippers. The deal pushed Watson’s name into the United States Trending Now list on August 21 as fans followed the latest reshaping of several rosters.

The Associated Press reported that Watson, a restricted free agent after four seasons in Denver, will sign a four-year contract with Cleveland worth $88 million. The agreement includes a player option and a trade kicker, according to a person familiar with the trade who spoke anonymously because the transaction had not yet been formally announced at the time of the report.
AP said Cleveland will send Denver an unprotected 2031 first-round pick and a 2032 second-round selection originally acquired from Sacramento. The multi-team structure also involves Washington, with the Cavaliers using the move to add a young forward while creating a larger set of roster and salary changes.
France’s L’Équipe separately reported the move and described it as a sign-and-trade arrangement. Its account also listed the four-year, $88 million value, giving the headline figures a second independent report outside the initial AP account.
Watson averaged 8.1 points and 3.5 rebounds in his most recent NBA season, according to the AP report. Cleveland will be hoping his defense, length and transition play can translate into a larger role, while Denver receives future draft capital after choosing not to match the contract terms. The agreement remains subject to the league’s transaction process.
