Riteish Deshmukh’s directorial debut *Raja Shivaji* continues its theatrical run with steady collections, though the film has not been able to recreate the exceptional momentum of its opening day. The historical drama, based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, released in theatres on May 1 in Marathi and Hindi and recorded what has been described as the biggest opening for a Marathi film.

According to the latest figures shared by Sacnilk, the film earned ₹4.25 crore on its sixth day at the box office. The number came slightly below its day-five collection of ₹4.90 crore, indicating a slowdown after the weekend surge.
The film had opened strongly with ₹11.35 crore on day one. Collections remained solid through the weekend, with ₹10.55 crore on Saturday and ₹12 crore on Sunday. Despite the expected weekday drop, the film has maintained a visible presence in theatres across Maharashtra and other regions where the story of Shivaji Maharaj carries deep cultural resonance.
So far, *Raja Shivaji* has collected ₹57.70 crore gross in India, while its India net collection stands at ₹48.65 crore. The Marathi version continues to contribute the larger share of earnings, collecting ₹3 crore on day six, while the Hindi version added ₹1.25 crore.
The film released alongside *Ek Din*, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, but the clash appears to have had little impact on *Raja Shivaji’s* overall performance. While *Ek Din* struggled to gain traction at the box office, Riteish Deshmukh’s film retained audience attention through its first week.
Produced by Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company, the film has been written and directed by Riteish Deshmukh. Genelia D’Souza and Jyoti Deshpande have backed the project. Riteish stars in the lead role as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, while Genelia plays Saibai. Their sons, Rahyl and Riaan, portray younger versions of Shivaji in the film.
The cast also includes Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi and Amole Gupte in supporting roles.
Speaking to ANI, Riteish Deshmukh said the audience response has mattered to him beyond the commercial numbers. He described seeing families, grandparents and young children attending screenings together as one of the most meaningful aspects of the release.
“When I see people taking their families, making groups, taking their grandparents, there are a lot of people who have never seen a film, they are taking their grandchildren,” he said, adding that many viewers have been sharing their reactions online after watching the film.
