Roomba Max 875 Combo Uses Heated Roller Mopping and Carpet-Sealing Suction

By Mohammad Al AminSeptember 5, 20263 Mins Read

The Roomba Max 875 Combo is iRobot’s new flagship robot vacuum and mop, introduced on September 2 alongside the Roomba Plus 678 Combo. The company says the Max 875 combines its SealForce vacuuming system with heated ThermaMist mopping and an AutoWash dock. Tom’s Guide’s first report describes the model as a higher-end attempt to tackle two of the hardest jobs for a robot cleaner: deep carpet cleaning and dried-on marks on hard floors.

iRobot’s central vacuuming claim is SealForce technology. In its launch release, the company says the system concentrates airflow at the floor and delivers 20 liters per second of airflow with five times more suction power than its comparison reference. Those are iRobot’s test and marketing claims, not a guarantee for every carpet or home. Tom’s Guide reported that the design creates a tighter seal around the cleaning area, which is intended to help the robot pull more debris from carpet.

Mopping is handled by a heated roller rather than a simple flat pad. iRobot says the PowerSpin Max roller mop uses heated water at 300 revolutions per minute and applies 18 Newtons of downward pressure. The company calls it its largest roller mop and claims deeper scrubbing than its standard PowerSpin system. The result will still depend on floor type, stain age, cleaning solution and how much water the robot can manage during a run.

The carpet problem gets a separate mechanism. When the robot detects carpet, DriLift raises the mop roller and lowers a protective shield. That allows the machine to move from a wet floor to a rug without asking the owner to remove the mop or block the carpeted room. Tom’s Guide also reported an outward-expanding brush for edge and corner cleaning, another area where robot vacuums often leave a strip of dust behind.

The Roomba app adds the scheduling layer. Tom’s Guide says owners can set routines by room, give extra attention to busy areas such as hallways and choose light, medium or deep cleaning. iRobot’s Precision Vision AI is designed to recognize more than 300 common floor objects, including items such as pet bowls and children’s toys. Object recognition can help with navigation, but it should not be treated as a guarantee that every small cable or fragile item will be avoided.

iRobot lists the Roomba Max 875 Combo at $1,199 with the AutoWash dock in its launch material, while Tom’s Guide reported a $1,119 price at iRobot at the time of its story. The difference may reflect an early offer, regional pricing or a changing product page, so shoppers should check the current store listing before purchasing. The robot also cannot climb stairs, according to Tom’s Guide.

The Max 875 Combo’s appeal is its attempt to automate the messy transition between vacuuming and mopping. Its biggest open question is real-world performance, because iRobot’s launch claims still need independent long-term testing across carpets, rugs, corners and dried spills. For now, the confirmed package is a premium Roomba with concentrated carpet suction, heated roller mopping, automatic rug protection and app-based routines.
