Samsung confirmed this week that some Galaxy S26 Ultra phones are developing a reddish tint on their displays. The company says it’s a software issue, not hardware failure, and a fix is already on the way.

Users reported the red cast appearing gradually after months of normal use, while others spotted it on demo units in retail stores. Some claims go back to March, shortly after the device launched. Samsung traced the root cause to prolonged exposure to strong lighting at maximum brightness—the kind of environment retail displays sit in all day.
What’s Actually Happening
The problem stems from color calibration software that wasn’t fully optimized for the S26 Ultra’s new Privacy Display technology. Instead of a hardware defect or OLED burn-in, the discoloration is a matter of color balance gone wrong. That’s good news: it can be fixed through software.
Samsung is already calibrating affected units through service centers. An over-the-air update will bring the same color correction to user phones once final verification is complete. No display panel replacement needed.
The Warranty and Timeline
Users experiencing the red tint currently need to visit a Samsung service center to get access to the software fix. The OTA update will roll out after internal testing wraps up. Samsung hasn’t announced a specific date yet, but the company said the fix is being prioritized.
All warranty coverage remains intact for affected devices. Samsung is treating this as a calibration error, which means it falls under normal service obligations.
A display problem this visible would normally trigger panic, but Samsung’s swift acknowledgment and software fix prevent what could have been a larger recall situation.
