Samsung revealed the Galaxy Z Flip 8 at Unpacked on July 22, 2026, as a refinement of the previous Flip 7. The new model is thinner, ships August 7, and positions the clamshell form factor as a proven category—not an experiment. Samsung’s dual foldable strategy is now clear: the Fold for productivity (large unfolded screen), the Flip for fashion and pocket-ability.

The Flip 8 uses the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 as the Fold 8 Ultra but pairs it with a smaller battery and more compact form. The cover display is optimized for quick interactions—replying to messages, checking time, taking selfies without fully opening the phone.
Form Over Function
The Flip has always been about feel. It’s the device you flip open and snap closed. It’s satisfying. The original Flip 7 proved the form factor could reach mainstream acceptance. The Flip 8 continues that momentum with minor refinements rather than radical reinvention.
Thinness matters on a clamshell. A thicker Flip 8 would feel bulky when folded. Samsung prioritized a slimmer profile—a constraint that forces difficult tradeoffs on battery capacity. But for daily use, the Flip 8’s battery still lasts a full day with moderate use.
Market Position
The Flip competes not just against phones but against fashion. It’s expensive enough that buyers are making a statement. The form factor is the feature. Performance and camera quality are table stakes but secondary to the fold-and-snap experience.
FYI (keeping you in the loop)
How much does the Flip 8 cost?
Samsung hasn’t disclosed full pricing for all markets, but it’s expected to start around $999-1,099 USD, continuing the clamshell’s premium positioning.
