Samsung launches the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22 in London. Two distinct models debut this year: the Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Z Fold 8 Wide. The dual approach reflects Samsung’s understanding that foldable phones mean different things to different people.

The Z Fold 8 Ultra features an 8-inch foldable display paired with a 6.5-inch cover screen. The device is 15 grams lighter than its predecessor, a meaningful reduction when you’re holding a premium device. The battery jumps from 4,400 mAh to 5,000 mAh, addressing one of the Z Fold 7’s complaints. Charging finally moves from 25W to 45W wired charging, halving the time to full battery.
The camera system upgraded substantially. The main camera is now 200MP. The ultrawide jumped from 12MP to 50MP. The telephoto holds at 10MP but with 3x optical zoom. These aren’t incremental improvements. The ultrawide change particularly addresses complaints about wide-angle image quality.
The crease got tighter. Samsung has been working on this for three generations. Buyers notice. The fold feels less pronounced when you swipe across the screen.
The Z Fold 8 Wide takes a different path. It weighs approximately 200 grams, significantly lighter than the Ultra at 210g. The inner display is a 7.6-inch LTPO OLED with a 4:3 aspect ratio. This ratio matters for productivity tasks. Wide has dual 50MP rear cameras with no telephoto, trading telephoto capability for affordability.
Both models run the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. RAM starts at 12GB with options up to 16GB. Storage maxes at 1TB.
Pricing for the Z Fold 8 Ultra starts at $1,999 for 256GB, $2,279 for 512GB, and $2,699 to $2,799 for 1TB. The lighter form factor and faster charging address previous complaints directly. Samsung listened to feedback. The Z Fold 8 series reflects that listening. July 22 is less than a month away. Pre-orders open before launch.
