Samsung announced three new foldables at its Unpacked event in London on July 22: the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. The base Fold 8 is the company’s lightest foldable yet at 201 grams, down from the Fold 7’s 215 grams.

The new design is noticeably wider when opened. It measures 34.5 mm shorter but 18.2 mm wider unfolded compared to last year’s model. Samsung says the wider form factor feels more natural for productivity tasks and multitasking.
Flex Titanium Display Changes Everything
The standout upgrade is Samsung’s new Flex Titanium display technology. It makes the crease far less noticeable while also making the screen more durable and harder to scratch. Users have complained about crease visibility for years, so this addresses a real pain point that’s held back foldable adoption.
Inside, the Fold 8 runs Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. The battery jumped to 4,800 mAh from the Fold 7’s 4,400 mAh. That’s a meaningful upgrade for a device that already drew power through foldable multitasking.
Pricing and Availability Matter
Pre-orders start immediately at major carriers and retailers. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 begins at $1,900. The premium Z Fold 8 Ultra starts at $2,100. Shipping begins August 8.
Apple launches its own foldable iPhone in September, so Samsung’s summer timing gives it a few weeks of runway before the real battle begins. The wider form factor and improved crease could matter more than specs when consumers compare the two.
Samsung bet on practical improvements rather than raw speed, a shift that suggests foldables are finally becoming about real use, not just novelty.
