Samsung is preparing to close a gap in its camera software that users have worked around for years, bringing a built-in multi-page document scanner to several existing flagship phones through its upcoming One UI 8.5 update.

The feature, first shown with the Galaxy S26 series, allows users to scan multiple pages in one session and save them directly as a single PDF. Until now, Samsung’s camera app handled each page as a separate image, leaving users to rely on third-party apps to combine them afterward.
That workaround has been common for a long time. Apps like Adobe Scan, Google Drive, and Microsoft Lens filled the need because Samsung’s native option didn’t. With this update, that extra step is no longer necessary on supported devices.
The way it works is straightforward. When the camera detects a document, users can capture each page one after another. Once finished, the software merges everything automatically into a single PDF file. There’s no need to switch apps or manually compile pages.
Samsung has also focused on improving the output itself. The scanner is designed to correct distortions, flatten creases, and remove unwanted elements like fingers from the frame. The result is meant to resemble a clean, readable document rather than a quick phone snapshot.
The feature can also be made easier to access. Users will be able to pin the document scanning mode directly to their apps screen, avoiding the need to dig through camera settings each time.
Support, however, is not uniform across devices. The Galaxy S25 lineup is confirmed to receive the feature. Other newer models, including the Galaxy S25 Edge and the latest foldables, are expected to get it, though Samsung has not formally confirmed all of them.
For devices just one generation older, the situation is less clear. The Galaxy S24 series and its foldable counterparts are part of the One UI 8.5 beta program, but the document scanner has not yet been confirmed for those models. Being in the beta does not guarantee every feature will carry over.
There is also some uncertainty around whether hardware differences could limit availability. While some One UI 8.5 features rely on newer AI capabilities, it remains unclear whether the document scanner falls into that category.
For now, the feature is limited to beta users. A wider rollout is expected with the stable One UI 8.5 release, which could arrive as early as next month, depending on region.

For many users, the change is less about innovation and more about catching up. Still, bringing it through a software update, rather than reserving it for new hardware, may matter more in everyday use.
