Samsung Posts Record $58 Billion Profit as AI Memory Demand Soars

By Tarek HasanJuly 25, 20262 Mins Read

Samsung reported second-quarter operating profit of 89.4 trillion won, or roughly $58.4 billion. That is 19 times the profit from the same quarter last year. The company calls it a 1,810% increase. Any larger and the number loses meaning.

Samsung profit AI memory chips

Memory chips power AI servers. When AI servers sell like phones, memory prices spike. Samsung makes more memory than anyone. The math is simple.

Why This Matters

This is the largest single-quarter profit any technology company has ever reported. Ever. Full stop. Samsung’s previous record was lower. Apple’s record was lower. Microsoft’s record was lower.

The profit surge reflects an unusual moment in the chip industry. AI demand outpaced supply. Prices doubled in some cases. Customers paid whatever it took. Supply started to ease by July, but the damage was done. Samsung already printed the money.

The Broader Picture

Samsung is the world’s largest memory chipmaker. The company makes DRAM and NAND flash—both essential for AI infrastructure. Data centers need memory even more than they need GPUs. You can train an AI model with expensive GPUs but stale, slow memory. You cannot do it the other way around.

This Q2 result is preliminary guidance, not audited earnings. Full results come July 30. Do not be surprised if the actual profit is even higher.

What Comes Next

Memory prices are falling again. Supply is catching up. Q3 and Q4 will not match Q2. But the year is still tracking to be Samsung’s best ever. If the company generates $200+ billion in annual profit in 2026, that is a historic moment for the industry.

Samsung turned AI infrastructure into the most profitable bet of the decade. The company is printing money.
