Shpageeza Cricket League 2026 Kicks Off With Amo Sharks Victory July 1

By Abul KalamJuly 4, 20262 Mins Read

Afghanistan’s Shpageeza Cricket League 2026 began July 1 with Amo Sharks defeating Band-e-Amir Dragons by eight wickets in the opening match. The tournament runs through July 14, featuring 10 regional teams competing in a T20 format across 39 group stage matches and knockouts. Khost will host several matches, including the sixth fixture on July 4 between Boost Defenders and Speen Ghar Tigers.

The Shpageeza remains one of Asia’s growing domestic cricket competitions. It bridges the gap between club cricket and Afghanistan’s international side, giving young players and established veterans a platform to display form ahead of bigger tournaments. The 2026 edition continues that tradition while building fan engagement in Afghanistan’s cricket-mad regions.

Teams and Structure

Ten teams contest the league, each representing different provinces and regional identities. The format alternates between home and away matches against each opponent, compressed into a two-week window. Win early, and you coast. Lose early, and you’re fighting uphill. Injuries and form swings matter more in short tournaments.

Each team plays nine group-stage matches before knockouts begin around July 12. The top four teams advance to semifinals. Winner plays in the final on July 14.

Player Performances and Standouts

Young batsmen use the Shpageeza to stake claims for national selection. Bowlers get opportunities to test variations against quality opposition. Veterans occasionally return to prove they still have cricket left in their arms. The league is a pressure cooker—real stakes, real consequences, compressed into two weeks.

Amo Sharks’ opening win sets them up well, but the competition hasn’t started. Speen Ghar Tigers, Boost Defenders, and the other teams are equally dangerous. Form can swing wildly. A player in middle of a bad patch can suddenly find rhythm and carry his team forward.

Following the Action

Live scores and match updates are available on Cricinfo and ESPN Cricinfo. The tournament is broadcast within Afghanistan and streamed for diaspora fans worldwide. Every match matters—even group stage games determine playoff seeding.

Shpageeza 2026 is underway. Thirteen days remain until a new champion is crowned. Watch for performances that change careers.
