Star Fox arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, returning the arcade space-combat franchise after a 13-year gap. Nintendo’s remake marks the series’ debut on the new hardware with signature aerial action and star-filled dogfights.
The game restores the franchise’s core loop: fast-paced space missions, ship-to-ship combat, and branching level paths. Players navigate Corneria, Fortuna, and other Star Fox planets in the Arwing fighter. Classic characters including Fox, Falco, and Peppy return with updated graphics.
The Switch 2’s increased processing power enables detailed space environments and denser enemy counts. Early hands-on reviews praised responsive controls and satisfying combat feel. The game captures what made the original N64 title feel innovative in 1997.
Nintendo has invested heavily in remaking or reviving dormant franchises. Star Fox sat unused since Star Fox Zero on Wii U. Consumer demand for the franchise never vanished. This release tests whether older IPs still drive hardware sales.
The game launches alongside other major Switch 2 titles released in June, including Devil May Cry 5 and the Frostpunk 2 expansion. The library is growing rapidly for the new platform.
