Vivo is bringing back its S series to India in July 2026 with the Vivo S2, ending a nearly seven-year gap since the series last appeared in the market. The return targets young professionals who prioritize design and mid-range performance, filling a segment Vivo left abandoned.

The S series historically positioned itself between Vivo’s entry-level Y series and premium X series. It appealed to buyers wanting style without flagship pricing. After exiting India, Vivo focused on the Y and X lines. Now, the company sees room to reclaim the middle ground.
Market Timing
July 2026 is busy for phone launches. Nothing Phone 4b, Samsung Galaxy Unpacked, and existing models create noise. Vivo’s return to the S series lands amid competition but targets a specific audience: design-conscious mid-range buyers aged 18-30 who Oppo’s Reno and other mid-range phones are also targeting.
The market has matured since the S series exit. Buyers now expect better cameras, faster processors, and more durable build than they did seven years ago. Vivo will need to deliver on all three fronts to justify the S series return.
Design Focus
The S series was always design-forward. Distinctive colors, refined materials, and distinctive industrial design separated it from generic mid-range phones. Vivo will likely emphasize that heritage with the S2. If the design feels derivative or uninspired, the series return fails.
Pricing will be critical. Vivo can’t ask S2 prices equivalent to 2019 levels. Smartphone pricing has compressed. Mid-range phones are cheaper than ever. Vivo needs to deliver flagship design feelings at aggressive mid-range pricing to justify the seven-year return.
