Acer has announced the Connect X6ES, a 5G customer-premises-equipment router designed to combine cellular service with wired broadband. The company introduced it as part of its IFA 2026 connectivity lineup in Berlin on September 2.

The router supports 5G and Wi-Fi 6E. Acer says it can use both 5G and WAN connections and switch between them through intelligent failover. The aim is to keep a connection available when one path becomes unavailable or performs poorly.

This type of setup can suit a home or small business that has access to a 5G network but does not want to rely on cellular service all the time. It can also give a fixed location a backup connection without requiring a second conventional broadband line.

Acer lists WPA2 and WPA3 encryption, firewall protection, SIM lock support and VPN support. These are network-management features rather than guarantees of safety. Users still need strong passwords, current software and a secure configuration.

The X6ES can be managed through a web browser. Acer also includes two Gigabit Ethernet ports and a WPS button. The ports can connect wired devices such as computers, televisions or access points to the router.

The product is a connectivity device, so its real performance will depend on local carrier coverage, spectrum, network congestion and the available WAN service. A 5G label alone does not establish a specific speed for every location.

Acer plans to make the Connect X6ES available in EMEA in the first quarter of 2027, starting at €299. The company has not listed a North American launch date or price in the announcement.

The X6ES gives Acer a new route into hybrid home and office networking. Its defining feature is the automatic handoff between 5G and wired service, with Wi-Fi 6E and browser-based management supporting the rest of the design.
