GPD Adds a 120W Cooling Option to the Win Max 3 Handheld PC

By Arif ArmanSeptember 9, 20262 Mins Read

GPD is showing how its Win Max 3 handheld PC can be used as a higher-power desktop gaming machine with an optional cooling module. Geeky Gadgets reported the accessory as a current product development, while GPD’s own update and an independent technical report describe the docked operating idea and the hardware connections.

The cooling module is designed to change the thermal ceiling rather than simply add a decorative stand. GPD says the system can support up to a 120-watt thermal design power when the handheld is used in its high-power configuration. The figure applies to the configured system and should not be treated as the normal power draw for every game or every battery session.

GPD’s Win Max 3 is built around AMD’s Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 platform. The company’s product material pairs the processor with a high-capacity battery and a 180-watt adapter. With the optional module attached, the computer can be connected to a larger display and used as a compact desktop, giving owners a way to move between portable play and a desk-based setup.

The docked mode is one of the more practical parts of the design. GPD’s demonstration shows 1440p output, while the accessory adds HDMI, USB4 and USB ports for monitors, storage and other peripherals. That does not turn the handheld into a full desktop tower, but it reduces the number of adapters needed when the device is used as a workstation or a fixed gaming system.

The thermal design also changes the trade-off between battery capacity and performance. The accessory can occupy the module area that would otherwise be used for a battery component, so users have to choose the configuration that matches their routine. A player who spends most of the day away from a desk may prefer battery endurance, while a user with a monitor and power outlet may value sustained performance.

GPD has not published a final global retail price for the cooling module in the sources checked for this report. The confirmed point is the product direction: Win Max 3 is being presented as a modular handheld PC that can gain desktop-style cooling and connectivity. Buyers should wait for the final compatibility list, pricing and regional sales details before ordering.
