Hyundai Motor India has confirmed that its upcoming SUV will be called Bayon. The company’s name announcement is the first formal step in the vehicle’s India introduction, while product details such as specifications, pricing and final positioning are still to come.
Autocar Professional reports that Hyundai describes the Bayon as a new global model for its Indian SUV portfolio. The automaker says the vehicle will combine its global design and product philosophy with technology-focused features. Hyundai is presenting the SUV through the idea of intelligent mobility rather than releasing a full technical sheet at this stage.
The name comes from Bayonne, a city in France’s Basque Country. Hyundai says the reference is meant to reflect the model’s global design philosophy and a sense of movement and adventure. The explanation is part of the company’s naming announcement, not a confirmation of the vehicle’s final equipment or powertrain.
Tarun Garg, managing director and chief executive of Hyundai Motor India, said the Bayon represents a new approach to intelligent and intuitive mobility experiences. The company’s description points to technology that fits into everyday driving, but Hyundai has not yet specified which driver-assistance, connectivity or infotainment systems will be offered in the India version.
Hyundai also released a name-reveal film. The video uses a futuristic laboratory setting, with different elements coming together to form the word Bayon. It ends with the message “Intelligence ON.” The film is a branding exercise around the upcoming product, rather than a substitute for the technical information the company says it will publish later.
Acko Drive reports that the upcoming model is expected to sit between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s India range. That positioning is a report about the expected market slot, not an official price announcement. Hyundai’s own India press-release page currently lists the Bayon announcement but does not provide a full specification table.
The company says more information will be revealed in the coming weeks. Until that update arrives, buyers have a confirmed name and a broad technology-led description, but no verified India pricing, engine details, dimensions, safety rating or booking schedule. Those details should be treated as open questions rather than filled in from the international model or online speculation.
