Apple has released HomePod Software 27 for its HomePod and HomePod mini speakers. The update arrived on September 14, 2026, alongside Apple’s wider software rollout and adds support for Apple Music AutoMix on the speakers.

MacRumors reports that AutoMix transitions between songs in a DJ-style sequence. Apple’s system uses time stretching and beat matching to connect tracks, so playback can continue without the usual pause between songs. The feature is designed for Apple Music listening rather than for general audio played through the speaker.
Apple had previously announced that AutoMix would expand to Apple Music on tvOS and HomePod. The company describes the updated transitions as more immersive and engaging, while the current release confirms that HomePod users can now receive the feature through the new software.
HomePod Software 27 also improves AirPlay performance. According to MacRumors, connections from an iPhone, iPad or Mac should be faster and more responsive when users share music to a HomePod. The update also includes bug fixes and security updates, although Apple’s release report does not list a separate feature-by-feature security bulletin for HomePod in the announcement.
Users can install the software from the Home app on an iPhone, iPad or Mac. The update path is under the More button, Home Settings and Software Update. Owners who have automatic updates enabled can allow the speaker to install the release without starting the process manually.
The rollout gives HomePod owners two distinct reasons to update. AutoMix changes how Apple Music tracks flow together, while the AirPlay work addresses the connection experience for music sent from other Apple devices. The bug fixes and security maintenance provide an additional reason to keep the speaker on the current software line.
Apple’s release is part of the company’s broader 2026 operating-system cycle. The HomePod update does not turn the speaker into a general-purpose assistant or introduce a new hardware model. It is a software release focused on Apple Music playback, AirPlay responsiveness, fixes and security maintenance for the existing HomePod family.
HomePod users can check the installed version in the Home app after the update completes. People who depend on automatic updates may see the change arrive over time, while those who want to test AutoMix immediately can open Software Update and check for HomePod Software 27. Apple’s instructions and the Home app remain the proper route for managing the installation.
