Daimler Truck and Volvo Group are moving their Coretura software-defined vehicle program from a strategic concept toward a physical truck demonstration. Autocar Professional reports that the joint venture plans to run its platform in one of Daimler Truck’s vehicles by the end of 2026.

Coretura has been operating since June 2025. The venture is developing a software-defined vehicle platform and a dedicated operating system for commercial vehicles. Its goal is to create a common technical foundation that can support different digital features from Daimler Truck, Volvo Group, customers and other developers.
The proposed demonstration matters because a software-defined vehicle is not just a new screen or an updated infotainment system. The platform is intended to connect high-performance computing, vehicle software and application interfaces so that functions can be developed and improved over the vehicle’s working life. Coretura’s own description says its stack includes hardware, middleware, a software development kit and developer tools for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
Daimler Truck says the companies are rethinking the vehicle architecture with Coretura and working toward an industry standard. The company’s digitalisation page describes a streamlined architecture with its own operating system. It says future applications could include earlier hazard detection, digital freight documents and the ability to reserve parking or charging spaces, while software updates could be delivered over the air.
Autocar reports that Coretura has grown to more than 130 employees from 16 countries. The joint venture is also intended to let manufacturers and developers deploy differentiated software through standard application programming interfaces. That separation could reduce the need to redesign a complete vehicle system each time a software feature changes, although the final user experience will depend on how the platform is integrated into a production truck.
The planned 2026 truck is a demonstration, not a confirmed mass-market product. It will show how the architecture works under real conditions. It will not by itself prove that every planned feature is ready for customers or that every Daimler and Volvo truck will use the same configuration.
Coretura’s next milestone is therefore practical: place the software-defined platform in a truck and demonstrate its first capabilities. The outcome should give the industry a clearer view of how a common operating system and application layer could be used in commercial vehicles.
