India’s electric commercial vehicle market recorded 23,540 retail sales from January through August 2026, according to data reported by Autocar Professional. The figure represents a 155 percent year-on-year increase and is already above the segment’s full-year 2025 total of 16,695 units.

August was the strongest month in the period, with 4,746 electric commercial vehicles retailed, up 191 percent from a year earlier. The growth was spread across passenger buses, light goods carriers and heavy goods carriers, but small electric goods carriers remained the largest part of the market.
Autocar’s analysis counted 17,292 electric light goods carriers in the first eight months. That was a 202 percent year-on-year increase and gave the category a 73 percent share of electric commercial vehicle sales, up from 62 percent in the same period of 2025. The pattern reflects the importance of last-mile and intra-city delivery work to India’s commercial EV market.
Tata Motors remained the leading manufacturer in the reported data, with 7,867 electric commercial vehicles and a 33 percent market share. Its sales rose 201 percent from the year-earlier period. The company’s electric small commercial vehicles made up most of its volume, while its range also includes electric buses and larger commercial vehicles.
Euler Motors was the standout challenger in the same period. Its electric small commercial vehicle portfolio sold 4,637 units, up 1,305 percent year over year, giving the company a 20 percent share. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility sold 2,401 electric commercial vehicles and held an 8 percent share, while Switch Mobility reported 2,401 units across its electric bus and small-commercial-vehicle operations in the analysis.
FADA’s official August 2026 vehicle-retail release confirms that electric commercial vehicles reached an all-time monthly high, although its headline release does not use the same year-to-date breakdown as the Autocar analysis. FADA reported 90,769 total commercial-vehicle registrations in August and said overall EV retail across all categories reached 298,448 units.
The numbers show fast growth from a small base, not a fully mature market. FADA’s data also exclude Telangana commercial-vehicle registrations for the month. For fleet operators, the next test will be whether electric small carriers can hold their August momentum as new models, charging arrangements and operating costs shape purchase decisions.
