Maruti Suzuki crosses 1 lakh Japan exports for three India-built models

By Saleh MohammadSeptember 15, 20262 Mins Read

Maruti Suzuki India says exports of three India-built models to Japan have crossed one lakh units. The milestone covers the five-door Jimny, Fronx and e Vitara and highlights the role of Indian production in Suzuki’s supply for its home market.

Japan

Autocar Professional reports that Japan was Maruti Suzuki’s second-largest export market by volume in fiscal year 2025-26 and kept that position during April to August of the current fiscal year. The company says its cumulative shipments of the three models to Japan have now exceeded 100,000 units.

The export program began with the Fronx in August 2024. The five-door Jimny followed in December 2024, while the e Vitara was added in September 2025. The Jimny five-door and e Vitara are manufactured exclusively in India, according to the report. The e Vitara is also Maruti Suzuki’s first battery-electric vehicle.

Maruti Suzuki’s earlier company announcement on the Fronx explains how the Japan program started. The first consignment of more than 1,600 Fronx vehicles left Gujarat’s Pipavav port in 2024. The company described that shipment as the first India-made SUV export to Japan and said the model was produced at its Gujarat plant.

The latest milestone also comes as the Fronx continues to build a wider export base. Maruti Suzuki said in a separate August release that the Fronx had crossed two lakh global exports in under 38 months and was being shipped to close to 90 countries. That announcement identified the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat as the vehicle’s production site.

Maruti Suzuki says it supplies vehicles to nearly 120 countries through Suzuki’s global distribution network and has remained India’s leading passenger-vehicle exporter from fiscal year 2021-22 through fiscal year 2025-26. The company reported more than 1.8 lakh vehicle exports from April through August of the current fiscal year.

The Japan result is therefore more than a single-model sales update. It shows how vehicles developed and manufactured in India are being used in a mature overseas market, including Japan’s first supply of the India-built e Vitara. Final sales performance will still depend on individual model demand and Suzuki’s future export allocation.
