NBC’s new sitcom Newlyweds will premiere Friday, October 23, at 8:30 p.m. Eastern, with Jamie Lee Curtis attached as both executive producer and a recurring guest star. The network confirmed the date this week as part of its fall schedule rollout.
The series stars Tea Leoni and Tim Daly, a real life married couple, playing a fictional pair who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship. NBC describes it as a later in life love story about a free spirited woman and a buttoned up professor navigating marriage after finding each other later than expected. Pam Fryman, known for her work on How I Met Your Mother, directed the pilot.
Curtis has said the project has been years in the making. She pitched the concept to writer and executive producer Gail Lerner during the pandemic, and Lerner said she loved the idea from the start. NBC did not commit until a call came through in November 2025, more than five years after the two women first discussed it.
In recent interviews, Curtis described pushing hard for the role, saying she begged her agents to help her land a part in the sitcom revival she has been championing publicly. She has been vocal about wanting broadcast networks to bring back traditional multi camera comedies, arguing there is an audience appetite that streaming has not fully served.
NBC ordered Newlyweds alongside a separate detective comedy starring Jake Johnson, part of a broader push by the network to rebuild its comedy slate after years of leaning on procedural dramas and reality programming. Jane Lynch is also attached to the network’s new comedy development slate this season.
Curtis, an Academy Award winner for Everything Everywhere All at Once, has largely worked in film over the past decade, making her recurring television role notable to industry watchers tracking her career choices.
Whether Newlyweds finds an audience will become clear quickly. NBC has scheduled it in a competitive Friday night slot, a time period the network has used in recent years to test smaller budget comedies before committing to a full season order.
