Violoop prepares a local AI control box for Windows, Mac and Linux

By Yusuf ChowdurySeptember 8, 20262 Mins Read

Violoop is preparing a small hardware AI device that reads a computer screen and sends control input back to the machine. Tom’s Guide saw the device at IFA 2026, while Violoop’s own website says the product is scheduled to launch on Kickstarter on September 15.

The device is not being sold as a replacement computer. Violoop describes it as a plug-in unit that connects through HDMI input and USB-HID control. The company says it can work without drivers across Windows, macOS and Linux.

Violoop’s design is built around a local-first claim. The company’s product page says the device reads the screen on the hardware and that the raw feed does not leave the user’s desk. It also lists a physical confirmation key before an action is carried out.

The company explains the workflow in three steps: read the context, prepare the next step and act after approval. That sequence matters because a screen-aware system could otherwise make changes without the user’s knowledge. The physical key is presented as a control for sensitive actions.

Violoop lists an RK3576 octa-core processor and a dedicated accelerator rated at 26 TOPS. It also says the unit supports a user’s own API key and can connect with Claude, OpenAI and Gemini. Those specifications and service references come from the manufacturer.

Tom’s Guide reported from the IFA demonstration that the box is meant to move some agent processing away from the laptop. The report also said the company expects a plug-and-play setup and support for both Windows and macOS. Linux support is listed on the product page but was not described in the hands-on report.

Violoop plans to open its Kickstarter campaign on September 15 at an introductory price of $399, according to Tom’s Guide. The report says the company expects shipping in mid-October and a later wider price of $799. A planned campaign is not the same as a completed retail launch.

Final hardware performance, delivery, security and support terms remain to be tested after the campaign begins. For now, the confirmed story is a proposed local screen-aware AI device with a physical approval step and a stated September 15 crowdfunding date.
