Vivo’s latest premium smartphone lineup has created an unusual pricing overlap that is beginning to raise questions around the future positioning of the Vivo X300 in India. The company introduced the Vivo X300 FE at an event in Delhi on May 6, placing it in the sub-flagship segment, yet the device enters the market at a higher starting price than the standard Vivo X300.

At the moment, Vivo’s flagship portfolio stretches across four models. The Vivo X300 starts at Rs 75,999, while the newly launched Vivo X300 FE begins at Rs 79,999. Above them sit the Vivo X300 Pro at Rs 1,09,999 and the Vivo X300 Ultra at Rs 1,59,999.
The gap between the Pro and Ultra models follows a fairly expected premium hierarchy. The complication appears lower in the stack, where the FE variant overlaps awkwardly with the regular X300 despite carrying less powerful hardware in several areas.
The Vivo X300 continues to offer what most buyers would typically associate with a full flagship package. It ships with the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset and a triple rear camera setup featuring a 200MP primary sensor alongside two 50MP cameras. The phone also supports more consistent 4K video recording capabilities across its camera system.
By comparison, the Vivo X300 FE arrives with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, a 50MP primary camera, and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. Battery capacity is one area where the FE pulls ahead, carrying a 6,500mAh battery compared to the 6,040mAh unit on the standard X300.
Even then, the practical difference appears relatively small. Internal battery testing referenced in the comparison suggests the X300 trails the FE by around 30 minutes in PCMark runtime tests, while gaming battery drain differs by roughly 2 percent.
Pricing across storage variants further sharpens the contrast. The Vivo X300 FE with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at Rs 79,999, while the standard Vivo X300 with the same memory configuration costs Rs 75,999. The gap continues across higher storage options, with the X300 remaining cheaper even in its 512GB variants.
The pricing shift also stands out against Vivo’s earlier FE devices. The previous Vivo X200 FE launched at Rs 54,999, placing the new model significantly higher than its predecessor.
Part of the increase appears tied to broader component costs affecting the smartphone industry. The report points to an ongoing memory shortage linked to rising demand from AI-focused companies, which has pushed up production costs across manufacturers. Several smartphone brands have already revised pricing upward in recent months as supply pressures continue to affect components.
That backdrop may now force Vivo into a difficult decision with the X300. If the company leaves current pricing unchanged, the standard X300 risks undercutting the appeal of the FE model. A price correction on the X300 could help restore separation between the two devices, though Vivo has not announced any such move.
There are also signs that supply of the standard X300 may already be tightening. According to the report, Flipkart currently shows limited availability for some variants, with the base model unavailable for delivery in multiple locations. While Vivo has not commented publicly, such patterns can sometimes indicate constrained inventory or shifting production priorities.

The situation leaves the Vivo X300 in an unusual position for now. Despite sitting below the FE in price, it continues to offer stronger overall hardware and a similarly compact design, narrowing the reasons for buyers to move toward the newer model at its current pricing.
