Fresh leaks around the upcoming Insta360 Luna Ultra suggest the company may be preparing a direct challenge to DJI’s latest handheld gimbal cameras, with early details hinting at both higher zoom capability and a more flexible hardware approach.

The speculation follows closely behind the official unveiling of the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 and the first teaser of its dual-camera counterpart, the Osmo Pocket 4P. While DJI has confirmed a 3x zoom on the 4P, the unverified Luna Ultra leak claims a 6x optical zoom, a figure that, if accurate, would mark a notable jump in capability for this category.

For now, that figure remains unconfirmed. The information originates from a single source on X and has not been independently verified, making it difficult to assess how close it is to final hardware.

What has drawn more immediate attention, however, is the suggestion of a modular design. A cropped image shared by a known leaker appears to show the junction between the camera and its handle, accompanied by a pointed question about whether the unit separates. That aligns with recent talk that the Luna Ultra may allow the camera module to detach from the grip entirely.

Insta360 itself has added to the speculation, posting a pixelated teaser shortly after DJI’s announcement with a caption that reads more like a nudge than a reveal. The timing and tone have been widely read as a response to DJI’s launch, though the company has not provided any concrete details.

If the modular concept proves accurate, it would introduce a different way of using a handheld gimbal camera. A detachable module could allow for remote operation, alternative mounting setups, or more flexibility in confined shooting environments. Those possibilities remain hypothetical for now, but they reflect the direction suggested by the leaks.

At this stage, much of the conversation is being shaped by partial images and brief social media exchanges rather than formal announcements. Until Insta360 provides full specifications or confirms the design, the Luna Ultra remains an emerging product defined more by hints than by certainty.

Still, the timing is notable. With DJI’s latest devices now public, attention has quickly shifted to what may come next, and whether a different approach to form factor and zoom could shift expectations in this small but competitive segment.
