Apple’s iOS 27 update closes more than 100 security gaps

Apple’s iOS 27 release includes more than 100 security fixes, giving the new iPhone software a security role alongside its interface and Siri changes. The iOS 27 security fixes are part of Apple’s public update released on September 14, 2026. Apple also released iOS 26.7 for people who are not ready to move to the new major version.

MacRumors reports that iOS 27 addresses more than 100 vulnerabilities. The same report says iOS 26.7 includes more than 80 fixes, with 75 fixes shared by both branches. That makes the older update a separate security path rather than a feature release designed to match every change in iOS 27.

The reported fixes cover several parts of the operating system. They include kernel issues, including one that could allow a malicious app to gain root access, and a Bluetooth problem that could permit remote code execution. Apple’s published security material is the reference point for the individual vulnerability descriptions and affected devices.

Apple does not describe the release as a response to a known active attack in the reporting available with the launch. MacRumors says none of the listed flaws was known to have been actively exploited when the updates were released. Publishing technical details still gives users a reason to avoid leaving an eligible iPhone on an unpatched version.

Those notes direct readers to Apple’s security-release documentation for the vulnerability details. Apple’s support documents explain that the company publishes security information after fixes are available and identifies issues by CVE number when possible.

Some fixes were found with help from security researchers and automated tools. MacRumors says Apple credited Anthropic’s Claude for three of the fixes and mentioned OpenAI Codex Security in its additional recognition section. Those credits describe discovery assistance; they do not change Apple’s role in reviewing and shipping the patches.

Users can check for the update from the iPhone Software Update screen. Anyone staying on iOS 26 has the 26.7 option, while compatible devices can install iOS 27. The two choices do not carry the same feature set, but both provide a current route to Apple’s latest published security fixes for their respective software branches.
