Apple says its foldable iPhone Duo will support Apple Pencil with USB-C later this year. The company announced the feature in its iPhone Duo newsroom release, describing the stylus as a tool for taking notes, sketching and marking up documents on either display.
The support is notable because the Duo has two screens with different jobs. When closed, the phone uses a 5.4-inch outer display. When opened, it provides a 7.6-inch inner display that Apple describes as a larger canvas for viewing content, gaming and multitasking.
Apple Pencil support could make that inner screen more useful for quick notes or document work. A user could open the phone, mark up a file and then close it for ordinary phone tasks. Apple has not said in the announcement whether every existing USB-C Apple Pencil feature will work in the same way on the Duo.
The “later this year” timing is important. Apple’s announcement confirms the plan but does not make the feature available immediately. Software support, compatibility requirements and the final list of supported Apple Pencil models should be checked when Apple publishes the relevant update or product instructions.
A stylus will not turn the Duo into a full iPad replacement. The phone remains a pocketable device, and the smaller outer screen is designed for quick access rather than long handwriting sessions. The larger inner display can offer more room, but its usefulness will still depend on the apps that support stylus input.
Apple says its apps are being optimised for the Duo’s foldable layout. That should help the phone switch between closed and open states, but third-party applications may need their own updates. Users who plan to buy the phone for drawing or note-taking should check app compatibility before relying on it as a work tool.
For now, the confirmed message is simple: iPhone Duo will gain Apple Pencil with USB-C support later in 2026. Apple is targeting notes, sketches and document markups across both screens. The feature gives the foldable phone a more productive angle, while the exact launch date and compatibility details remain to be announced.
