Nintendo sets October 29 for Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 edition

By Arif ArmanSeptember 15, 20262 Mins Read

Nintendo will release a special The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 29, 2026. The company announced the console during its Zelda anniversary presentation and listed the Japanese domestic price at 62,980 yen including tax.

The anniversary edition uses a Zelda-themed design with a Triforce-inspired finish. It is the first special-edition Switch 2 hardware tied to the series’ 40th anniversary, giving fans a console that is visually different from the standard system.

Nintendo is also preparing matching accessories. The anniversary range includes a Switch 2 Pro Controller and a carrying case with a screen protector. Nintendo’s English-language announcement says the controller and case will be available on the same October 29 date.

The hardware announcement is part of a broader celebration of The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo has also highlighted the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, with the game and anniversary products forming separate parts of the release schedule.

Buyers should check the regional product listing before ordering. Nintendo’s Japanese release notice specifies a Japanese domestic console, and prices, packaging, language support and supply can differ in other markets. A special-edition design also does not automatically mean that every accessory is bundled inside the console box.

The anniversary edition is therefore aimed at fans who want the Switch 2 itself to reflect the series. It does not change the basic console platform. The main difference is the commemorative design and the matching accessories that Nintendo is offering alongside it.

Pre-order timing and stock will depend on each country’s Nintendo store and retail partners. Nintendo’s official information confirms the October 29 launch date, the anniversary theme and the accessory lineup. Further regional details should come from Nintendo’s local announcements rather than unofficial listings.

The release also gives Nintendo a way to connect new hardware with a long-running game series. For collectors, the appeal is the design and anniversary timing. For regular players, the standard Switch 2 remains the same platform, so the decision will mainly depend on availability, price and how much the Zelda finish matters to them.
