CPSC recalls 4,633 Amana through-wall air conditioners over fire risk

By Mohammad Al AminSeptember 15, 20262 Mins Read

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says about 4,633 Amana through-the-wall air conditioners and heat pumps are being recalled because a component can emit flames if it short-circuits. The recall was announced September 3, 2026, and covers units sold in the United States and Canada.

The affected products have model numbers beginning with PB. They are through-the-wall air conditioners and heat pumps made by Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing. CPSC says the units were sold from April 2025 through June 2026 for about $625 to $900.

The agency says the problem involves a snubber circuit. If the component short-circuits, it can emit flames and create a fire hazard. CPSC lists two reports connected with the issue and says no injuries have been reported. Consumers should still treat the recall as a safety matter rather than waiting for a failure.

CPSC’s instruction is to stop using the recalled unit. Owners should contact Daikin for a full refund. The recall notice says the company will require the power cord to be cut and a photograph to be uploaded as part of the refund process.

People should identify the model before contacting the manufacturer. The PB prefix is a key part of the recall information, but the complete model number and other product details should be checked against the official CPSC notice. If the label is difficult to read, owners should not guess whether a unit is covered.

The recall applies to a specific group of products and is not a warning about every Amana air conditioner. That is why CPSC and Daikin’s instructions should be used for the final check. A retailer listing, an online photograph or a similar-looking front panel is not enough to establish that a particular unit is included.

Consumers who own an affected PB-series unit should stop using it and follow the refund instructions from Daikin and CPSC. The official recall page contains the model information, sale period and contact process. Keeping that information together can make the claim easier and helps prevent a recalled appliance from being returned to service by mistake.
