X’s standalone XChat messaging app is no longer available from Apple’s App Store. MacRumors reported the change on September 14 after the app stopped appearing in App Store searches and its web listing returned an unavailable message.

XChat was launched in April as a separate way for X users to communicate. The app’s description positioned it as a focused messaging space with end-to-end encryption and disappearing messages. Those features were presented as part of the app’s identity rather than as a simple copy of the main X experience.
The current App Store status does not establish why the app disappeared. MacRumors said it was not clear whether Apple removed the listing or X took it down. Neither explanation should be treated as confirmed until one of the companies publishes a statement.
That distinction matters for people who installed the app. An app can become unavailable for several reasons, including a developer decision, a review issue, a technical problem or a regional change. A missing store listing by itself does not show which of those situations applies.
Existing users should avoid deleting XChat if it is still installed and they need to preserve access while the status is unclear. They should also be cautious with links that promise a replacement download. Installing an unverified package outside the official store can create security and account risks.
The disappearance also highlights the difference between an app listing and a service account. Even if the standalone app is unavailable, the underlying X account and other X messaging features may continue to exist. Users should check the company’s official help channels for any account or data instructions.
For now, the confirmed development is limited: XChat cannot be found normally in Apple’s App Store, and its web link is unavailable. The reason has not been publicly established. A formal statement from Apple or X would be needed before any wider conclusion about the app’s future can be made.
